Data Loss Prevention

Data Loss Prevention or DLP for short is intercepting sensitive data before it leaves an organization.  Confidential or sensitive data can be leaked out of a company through web, email, file transfer, or instant messaging.  People can even use Twitter to send out information to the public, including PHI. Here are a couple statistics I found interesting.  Verizon Business states that two-thirds of internal data breaches were the result of deliberate action.  The Open Security Foundation calculated that 31% of data loss incidents are attributed to a stolen laptop, desktop, or other media.
