Clean Up Proxy Actions

Proxy Actions are profiles that allow you to specify the restrictions on proxy traffic.  You might find that you have proxy actions that have been cloned at some point in the past, without proper naming.  This is best indicated by having a proxy name ending in .1, .2, etc.  This is a default mechanism of the WatchGuard firewall that could lead to confusion.

In order to keep your policies neat and organized, it is recommended that you take time to update your proxy actions with more detailed names.

Step 1: Remove Unused Proxy Actions

Before you begin, it is recommended that you remove any proxy actions that are not currently in use.  In Policy Manager, navigate to Setup > Actions > Proxies.  If there are any entries that say (not used), simply select them and click Remove on the right.

Step 2: Update Policies Names

As part of this process, it is recommended that you update your policy names if they are not specific.  In the example below, the policy is named HTTP-proxy.1, however this does not clearly indicate what this policy is for.  A better name would be something such as HTTP-Servers.

Step 3: Update Proxy Action Names

Once proxy action names are set, they cannot be changed.  However, you can update the name by cloning the proxy action currently in use.

Once you have cloned the action, you can now rename it to what you would prefer.  We recommend keeping the name similar to the name of the policy for easier identification.

Once the proxy action is renamed, you can click OK.  Your policy will now be set with a proxy action that is more adequately identified.

Step 4: Confirm Removal of Unused Proxies

The final step is to check once again under Setup > Actions > Proxies to make sure you do not have any unused proxy actions.  During the course of renaming, you most likely set the incorrectly named proxies as inactive.
